New Federal E-Discovery Rules went into effect December 1, 2006
Several amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure went into effect December 1, 2006, including changes related to discovery of electronic information (i.e. e-discovery.) The amendments can have a significant impact on a person or business involved in Federal litigation. Thorn | Lawrence, P.L. has studied the recent amendments and prepared a memorandum which generally discusses the rule changes and the steps litigants should undertake to comply with the recent modifications.
Lawrence granted membership in the Tampa Bay Estate Planning Council
Marcus Lawrence was recently granted membership in the Tampa Bay Estate Planning Council ("TBEPC"). TBEPC is an affiliate organization of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils ("NAEPC"). Both organizations are comprised of members actively engaged in estate planning to include: certified financial planners (CFP's), certified public accountants (CPA's), trust officers, insurance professionals, and attorneys. TBEPC and NAEPC have a dual missions of establishing and monitoring the highest professional and educational standard for estate planners and increasing the public's awareness of estate planning and the need to make proper estate plans. Thorn and Lawrence granted membership in the U.S. Supreme Court
Thorn | Lawrence founding partners Eric Thorn and Marcus Lawrence have been granted membership in the bars of the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Both Mr. Thorn and Mr. Lawrence are now licensed to handle Florida litigation matters in all levels of State and Federal courts. Mr. Lawrence is also admitted to practice law in the State of Alabama.
Thorn to present at Lorman Education CLE seminar, "Trucking Litigation and D.O.T. Regulations in Florida."
Thorn | Lawrence, P.L. founding partner, Eric M. Thorn has been selected to speak at a Lorman CLE seminar on, "Trucking Litigation and D.O.T. Regulations in Florida". The seminar will be held on October 19, 2006, at the Marriott - Tampa Waterside. Mr. Thorn will speak on Florida law regarding various theories of vicarious and direct liability frequently alleged against commercial drivers and motor carriers. Additionally, Thorn will discuss key tactics to exclude or limit evidence of driver negligence and employee discipline. Eric has previously represented commercial drivers and motor carriers in trucking litigation matters.
Lawrence speaks at Tampa Bay RIMS meeting on, “Cost Effective Litigation Strategies.”
Thorn | Lawrence, P.L. founding partner, Marcus S. Lawrence, Jr. , recently spoke at a Tampa Bay Chapter of Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (“RIMS”) monthly meeting. Mr. Lawrence provided a power point presentation on “Cost Effective Litigation Strategies” for meeting attendees. Presentation highlights included, a summary of the litigation process, identification of high cost area of litigation, and advice on how to combat excessive litigation costs.
Lawrence to present at Lorman Education CLE seminar on, “Premises Liability in Florida.”
Thorn | Lawrence, P.L. founding partner, Marcus S. Lawrence, Jr. has been selected to speak at a Lorman CLE seminar on, “Premises Liability in Florida”. The seminar will be held on August 29, 2006, at the Marriott – Tampa Airport. Mr. Lawrence will speak on claims investigation, preparation for the plaintiff’s deposition, and strategic use of proposals for settlement. Lawrence has previously represented Fortune 500 and other retail companies in the defense of premise liability and negligent security claims.
